Can AI actually fix sewing fit?

Hi Reader,

My party dress was supposed to be a quick make.

It was for my husband’s 60th, I had very little time, so I chose a ready-made pattern instead of drafting from scratch and some crushed velour from my stash.

I adapted it for stretch, made a toile…

But it didn’t look good.

Something was off and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

So I asked AI and I’ve written a blog post about what happened including what AI got right, what it got wrong, and what actually worked.

✨ Quick Sewing Tip

Toile with Purpose

There are two types of toile:

  1. Test toile - for fit and design
  2. Wearable toile - made neatly so you can actually use it

For a fit toile, you don’t need to worry about seam or hem finishes.

Instead:

  • Mark bust, waist and hip lines on the right side of the fabric
  • Draw adjustments directly onto the toile while wearing it
  • Pin, tweak, try on — and repeat

Use fabric with a similar weight, stretch and recovery as your final fabric.

It’s not just about fit.

You’re checking does the style actually suit you?

It also gives you a dry run of the construction:

  • you’ll spot tricky areas
  • test techniques and
  • feel more confident when you cut into your final fabric

The dress did get finished in time 😅

I had lots of compliments 😊

But more importantly, I understood why it worked in the end.

And that’s what makes future sewing easier.

If you’ve ever stood there thinking

“something’s off but I don’t know what”…

that’s exactly where having another pair of experienced eyes helps.

Inside Sew Bee Yourself, you don’t have to second guess.

You get clear, practical feedback on your fit so you can move forward with confidence.

Happy stitching!

Hi Reader, Last Sunday I was invited to a very special afternoon tea at Penn House to celebrate Chiltern Open Air Museum's 50th anniversary. My first thought was "What am I going to wear?" I had a rummage through my fabric stash and found a length of lightweight viscose I'd completely forgotten about. It was smooth, soft and drapey - perfect for a summer dress. Then I pre-washed it. Let's just say it didn't come out looking anything like it went in! Rather than trying to fight the fabric, I...

reorganising my sewing rooms

Hi Reader, I have 2 sewing rooms in my house. Upstairs is usually where I cut and prep fabric. Downstairs is mostly sewing and construction. But they weren’t functioning properly. I was fed up with shimmying around the ironing board to get into my sewing room. There was fabric and sewing supplies all over the place. Boxes and piles in the way of cupboards, drawers and shelves. I thought it would be a morning’s project but what followed involved moving furniture, sorting fabric for Vinted and...

Vee performing as Carrie in Carousel

Hi Reader, Her: You could take a leading role. Me: What?? Me?? NO! I can’t do that! Her: Why not? Me: well...... [scrambling to think of a valid reason] .... I can’t sing Her: You can learn to sing. Me: [mind blown] Really!? This was the conversation I had backstage with Sam, the leading lady of The Boyfriend, the first musical I was in and only the second show I’d ever been in. I was an ensemble member. Up to then I had assumed that singing was something you were naturally good at. I had no...
